FS#285 - Make search window smaller
Search and Replace window is way too big, and I can't see my code to see what I am replacing. Perhaps have an option to have a smaller window, with settings hidden (most of the time all you want is the search button) Have a toggle button in the window to switch between minimized search and full. If you look at the search in Visual Studio - its docks up the top right corner out of hte way and takes up very little room. perhaps you can use this for inspiration?

What about a transparent feature like in notepad++?
If the search window is not active, the gui will get transparent..so nothing of your code is hidden by the window.
I really like the way Microsoft did their search in Visual Studio and Visual Studio code,
minimilistic, and docks to the top right, so it is out of the way.
ISN is your baby so please take your time and have a think about it, Don't let one persons opinion (Mine) impact how you choose your baby to grow :)
It would also be useful if once you pressed enter or search in the search window the focus went back to the code window on the match so you can start editing the match straight away.
Also, if the current search could tell you when there is no match, it would be good feedback to the user (Curerntly it just stares at you if you search and there isn't a match, making you unsure if it worked at all)
My Dream Search window would feature the following:
Be mimimilist (don't take up much room)
Return the focus on the code once you click a search button
Perhaps dock to the right of the code window? So it doesn't block the view of your code
Search Scope (search in) (selection, file, project)
Option to Replace
Option to Select all Matches (so you can start multiline edit on all matches)
Ability to easily add (tab) and (crlf) to the search (so you can replace/delete tabs or linefeeds easily - perhaps just add a button to add special character, with a dropdown selection of tab, cr, lf, and any other characters that you can't type in to the search box, and they can be shown as (tab) but are actually special search terms (you would have a flag eg. bTab which is on when you click the dropdown, so that if people want to actually search their project for the string (tab) they can)

in that one little window you can
Find Replace, Match whole word, regexpressions, see the result count, next/previous, find in selection, replace all, and cancel
In the next version 1.09 there will be a smal search toolbar available. You can enable it via View -> Display small search bar.
